Rick Maurer

Maurer & Associates

Rick Maurer is a renowned expert on organizational change, particularly in understanding and addressing resistance to change. His journey into this field began in the early 1990s when he noticed that many discussions around change focused on "overcoming" resistance, a notion he found risky. Inspired by the gestalt approach, which views resistance and support as natural reactions to change, Rick explored more respectful and effective ways to engage with resistance in organizations.

Rick is the author of several influential books, including Beyond the Wall of Resistance (1996, revised in 2011) and Why Don't You Want What I Want? (2002). His most recent work, Seizing Moments of Possibility (2021), continues his mission to help leaders and consultants better understand and navigate resistance to change.

His opinion has been sought by The Wall Street Journal, CBNC, NBC Nightly News, The Economist, The Globe and Mail, Fortune, and many other media outlets.
